What happens is that the picture gets corrupted.

I'll try to illustrate it:
Normal display
abcderghijklmn
abcderghijklmn
abcderghijklmn
abcderghijklmn

This is how it looks for me:
ghijklmn_abcder
ghijklmn_abcder
ghijklmn_abcder
ghijklmn_abcder

I hope you understand my simple illustration. The desktop is  
displayed with the the left part on the right side and vise versa BUT  
the mouse pointer is displayed as it should. When clicking on  
anything I have to do it like they were displayed on there right  
place, not where they actually are displayed.

I think I will try to install the latest version of Fedora Core 4 and  
try your modelines, it might be that my lines does not work for some  
reason.

These is some of the lines that I have tried:
Modeline  "720x576test1" 14.250 720 752 792 912 576 582 588 625  
interlace +hsync +vsync
Modeline  "720x576test2" 14.250 720 720 760 912 576 582 588 625  
interlace +hsync +vsync
