Are you transcoding to MPEG-4? If so, what is your bitrate, also, what 
do you get when you inspect the final .nuv file using tcprobe? It is 
quite possible that transcode *did* succeed, it just happens to have 
created a file with approximately the same output size. I've had that 
issue with some files. The bitrate controls the final file size.

Good call.  I ran tcprobe and got the message 'file type/codec not yet supported by transcode.'  However, I did run tcprobe on my other shows and the messages came up as MPEG2 TS type files/codecs so it does appear that mythtranscode is running smoothly and I have my bitrate set too high (I left it at the default what ever that was).  Looks like I just need to fiddle with my settings a bit to get the shows a bit more compressed.
