I finally got to the bottom of this. I uninstalled the existing version and
reinstalled the same version from a differenct repository and now things are
working. It finds the codecs I have installed. I just finished creating a
AC3 version of Shark Tale that plays in the problem player. Happy children
are quiet children :)
