mpeg2enc is the slowest mpeg2 encoder out there.  This is covered on in 
the list archives extensively.  I've also found that the xvid encoder 
isn't particularly fast, either (although I'm encoding rather large 
624x468 files, it's about 3 hours per 20-30 minute show with denoise 
enabled).

It also looks like transcode doesn't offer any options for multi-cpu 
encoding (which I know mpeg2enc supports), so if anyone knows how to do 
this, I'm all ears.
