[mythtv-users] Questions about transitioning to new MythBox

OK... I took the plunge with the slickwilly's circuit-city rebate and
bought another PVR-250 for $90 (AR). I think I will take this opportunity to
rebuild my (currently working) mythtv box from scratch. I plan on doing it in
parallel with another computer on another system HD so I won't be out while I
make it go... (addictive little sucker!)... :) A few quick questions that I'm
sure some folks have dealt with.

1.	Partial database restoration. Since I've fiddled around with recording
profiles, different capture cards (used to have bttv card installed), and gone
through a few releases of mythtv, I would like to start with a fresh database.
I would, however, like to transfer the database entries for the currently
stored recordings, and which episodes have already been recorded. Does anyone
know of a way to do this *partial* database backup/restore?

2.	Fedora Core 2 + Xorg. I tried the atrpms route once but had an issue
where I had to compile from scratch. I'm tempted to try it again, but figure
I'll eventually get burned running a canned kernel (I usually compile my own).
I might be changing my video card, but I believe the GATOS ATI drivers require
XFree86. Has anyone been successful with either GATOS drivers on FC2's xorg
server, or installing xfree86 RPMS rather than the xorg ones on FC2?

3.	Mixed/matched PVR-250's. The new one is a retail (assumedly rev2)
board with the remote, but the old one is a rev1 OEM. I'm still running
ivtv-0.1.9 while I wait for the new ivtv. Any pitfalls or choice of ivtv
version that works well with putting two dissimilar PVR-250s in the same box?
I thought I heard something about some modprobe.conf parameters that only work
on specific (read: convoluted) ivtv-10[0-9][a-z]* versioning nonsense?

4.	Ext3, JFS, ReiserFS, LVM... decisions, decisions... I don't have much
for HD storage but the transparent upgradeability of LVM is appealing. How
much effort to make that go and add/remove devices? Horror stories?

5.	I'll let everyone know if the rev2 board has higher capture resolution
than what I've been whining about with my rev1 card for 6 months.... :)

Thanks!
-Cory
