Try setting the HD card to a working initial channel by running dtvsignal 
(from the pcHDTV tools),
e.g. dtvsignal /dev/dtv 19 (replacing 19 with a high-signal channel in your 
area)
before starting mythbackend.

I find LiveTV won't start if the ATSC tuner is stuck on a weak signal, 
though it manages to switch fine when a recording is scheduled.

Don't know if that helps at all with your setup, but it works in mine 
(HD-2000 and WinTV).
