As it happens, the CD sound started to work after I turned the CD
volume up in the ALSA mixer, but the other sounds like system sounds
would not (with all mixer volumes turned onto max).
Anymore ideas?
I am pretty new to Linux, but it is just driving me nuts atm. This
learning curve is bigger than I imagined.
