Note: The following is guesswork, as I dont yet use CLE266 myself
(I'm fighting ivtv atm ;) )

If its the very latest gentoo'y stuff it could be you've got a pure
unichrome setup and you're using the old closed source cle drivers,
maybe?

What steps have you taken to get CLE266 working? If its just the
libxvmc/xfree86/mplayer patches then try getting CVS and using 
unichrome.
