[mythtv-users] transcode / rip

Anyhoot, having a couple of problems looking for some feedback on;

I wanted to make a backup of my dvd so tossed it in, ripped it...took only like
15 minutes then it began transcoding and said would take 13 hours...ug, ugly.
I chose 'good' quality, should it take that long on an amd2600 athlon?  is doing
a 'perfect' rip do no transcoding?
