[mythtv-users] Re: Lirc Problems - could not open /dev/lirc

It works now. I don't fully understand why, but here's what I did:

I set the following permissions as Pete suggested: "chmod 644
/dev/lirc". Then I decided to remove ivtv and start over. So I did
the following:

# apt-get remove ivtv
# apt-get remove kernel-module-ivtv-*

When I ran the second command it appeared I had multiple versions of
the ivtv kernel module installed and apt only removed two of them.
Also, in /etc/modules.conf the line "alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c" was
directly under the "alias char-major-81-0 ivtv" line. I read in
Jarod's how-to that it should be towards the top. So I moved "alias
char-major-61 lirc_i2c" to the line directly following the path
settings. I don't know if that would make a difference, but maybe it
had something to do with the order the modules were being loaded. So
for now everything appears to work including the remote. Pete, Phil,
Wayne, Axel and Nate thank you so much for your help. For me this is
a learning experience and having experts like you willing to provide
assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Brian
