By GUI do you mean the On Screen Display? That's the only problem I have
with using 4:3 Zoom.

Yeah, I realize that. As I understand it, though, the PVR-250 will report
a "Widescreen" bit via VBI when it's present in the signal - does MythTV
read/save this yet?

No; the only mode that propery fills the screen is 4:3 zoom, and the GUI
is chopped off on that mode.
