The estimation of auto or user startup comes from a simple calculation:
 o find the soonest recording
 o if this recording starts within now + the 'idle wait for recording time', 
    then autostartup is assumed.

I have no Idea whats going wrong with your setup. Though you could play a 
little with those settings, maybe there is a little overlapping in times, 
destroying the internal logic.

I really should bring up my mythtv setup again to bring in my latest 
development on that stuff.
