It happens. Heck, I've asked stupider questions. I absolutely relate to the 6 hour thing.
I'm glad it was an easy one.

Sorry I can't offer anything on TV-Out, not having carried the box to my living
room yet. ;)

I had to fiddle with the ownership settings little, but that seemed to resolve the permissions problem. My apologies for such a dumb oversight, it seems that after you stare at something for six hours it starts to blur together and you miss things like that.

Now all that's left is that pesky TV-out problem. Thanks a million, Glen.

You don't say in your email, but I trust you've checked the audio device permissions
and ownership? I seem to recall having a problem like this that was solved by
changing the group owner of one or more of the audio device nodes, can't
remember now precisely which were the problem But I now have /dev/audio*,
dsp*, adsp*, mixer* all owned by root, group is audio, and all are mode 660.
Similarly everything in /dev/snd is root.audio and mode 660.

      Hello,
I'm at my wits end here.. I recently attempted an upgrade to CVS but ran into errors. I have since downgraded back to the 0.16 release. I'm using Fedora Core 1. I'm confident that my versions have been successfully restored to 0.16 however I am now plagued with the following problems:

I'm getting an Error opening audio device (/dev/dsp), the error was: Permission denied. I have the option of continuing without audio, which leads to very slow video performance.

I am seeing this on my monitor since my TV output has not worked since the aforementioned attempt at CVS, despite the fact that my configuration files have not changed.

In desperation, I removed all of the -devel packages that I installed during the CVS attempt and re-run myself through Jarod's Guide. During this process, I upgraded everything from the 2.4.22-1.2188 kernel to the 2.4.22-1.2199 kernel and appropriate modules.

All of the tests work (both audio and video) and I'm using his PVR350 modules.conf settings (The only change was my card address is 0b instead of 07 like his). These settings worked for me in the past, but now I'm only seeing a flashing black cursor on my screen instead of the bold beautiful world of Myth that my wife and I have been enjoying for months. This, coupled with the dev/dsp error that I hadn't ever seen before is causing me several grumpy days.

If someone could please help me with these issues it would be appreciated. My apologies for the multiple posts on my progress, but the WAF is decreasing every day that this thing is not operational.

      Josh
