svcd shouldn't be trying to split unless you tell it to.  If it is, 
something's configured wrong (and since I apparently don't know how to 
set it up right, I'm open to suggestions).

If you don't want a specific type of mpeg, what's the need for it over 
something higher quality like xvid?
