Cause my mum can't recompile a kernel, while downloading and updating 
the latest drivers to fix her video/tuner card problems.

Then patching the system to get the latest updates!

But she could pay a small monthly fee to have a TiVo, without any fuss 
at all, with auto updates and auto everything!

I do like Myth, don't get me wrong! I just think you myth guys shouldn't 
  always try to put a round peg in a square hole!

Each device has its pros, for the techie family its great, I do like the 
extra features over say a TiVo. BUT when its a non techie family/person 
I don't want to spend hours trying to fix there mythtv problems over the 
phone or remotely connected in and really they don't want the hassle as 
well. They just want it to work!

I guess when you only have a hammer, all problems look like a nail!
