[mythtv-users] Do I need a capture card?

I know a capture card is an important element of a Myth box, and also a 
hardware mpeg2 de/encoder is desirable.

However is it essential?

I plan to first extend a current box to demonstrate Myth to my other 
half. And then later build a box from scratch to have in the lounge full 
time.

My current box is Athlon XP 2800 and has a MSI fx5900xt vivo graphics card.

I dont think i need a tuner as I will only be using a digital cable box, 
so it will only have "1" channel.

I dont think I need a capture card as the gfx card has video in.

The mpeg encoding/decoding can be done by the CPU initially.

So is it possible not have a capture/tuner card? (performance excluded)

Would MythTV work in this set up?
