Actually, this makes sense (the lack of the directory and mythweb still
working) if he's disabled htaccess overrides (default setup for
apache).  If the htaccess file can't tell php to save its session files
in php_sessions, it puts them into /tmp  (I chose to change this
directory structure so that old sessions wouldn't just disappear when
/tmp gets wiped).

As to why the directory isn't there, that's a whole other issue.
