mplayer is installed as part of the MythTv Suite in
chapter #10.

Check that you have xvidcore installed.  You should be
able to do use apt-get install xvidcore.  I believe it
was also a component of the mythtv-suite from chapter
#10.  You may want to try installing the whole
mythtv-suite again.
