Mine is set up the same way, and I have no issues running the frontend
as the default user anyway (me).

Add all(?) users to group mythtv...

chggrp -R mythtv /mythtv (?) (assuming /mythtv contains all the myth*
directories like mythvideo/mythaudio etc)
