You don't mention what distrib your using - if it helps I've been 
running an XFS kernel in Gentoo for a short while. Looking at the Gentoo 
xfs-sources packages the kernels jumped from 2.4.20 to 2.4.23 ( missing 
.21 and .22 ) and are now on 2.4.24. Dunno if suggests anything but 
maybe you try with 2.4.24 ?
