[mythtv-users] New Problem with LIRC and Tivo remote...

One more thought...

Looking over Jarod's guide, it seems that it is geared towards using the IR
receiver that is included with the PVR-250 (which I don't have). I wonder if
my problem is simply that I do not have the correct enteries in my
/etc/modules.conf? I put the following in:

alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
.
.
.
add above ivtv lirc_dev lirc_i2c

Are these correct for using a serial IR receiver, or do they need changed?
What has others who have used a serial device used?

Thanks again and sorry for the multiple replies to my own thread.

OK, after looking at the messages I was getting from /var/log/messages, I
decided that maybe my lircd.conf file wasn't correct. I downloaded an
updated one (TIVO34) and put it in the proper directory. /usr/bin/irw still
does not work properly, but below is the revised message found in
/var/log/messages. Do I need to somewhere tell LIRC that it should be using
COM1 (i.e. the serial port)? Again, any help greatly apprechiated.

Hello all,

I got another PVR-250 and this one seems to work so I went on to the next
step in Jarod's guide. Unfortunately I have hit another snag with getting
LIRC to work properly. Everything has installed properly (following the
directions given in the guide). However, when I try '/usr/bin/irw', it
immediately dumps me back to the prompt. Checking the /var/log/messges file,
I found the following information:

Mar 22 20:07:23 localhost lircd: lircd startup succeeded Mar 22 20:07:27
localhost lircd 0.7.0pre1[3610]: accepted new client on /dev/lircd Mar 22
20:07:27 localhost lircd 0.7.0pre1[3610]: could not get hardware features
Mar 22 20:07:27 localhost lircd 0.7.0pre1[3610]: this device driver does not
support the new LIRC interface Mar 22 20:07:27 localhost lircd
0.7.0pre1[3610]: major number of /dev/lirc is 4 Mar 22 20:07:27 localhost
lircd 0.7.0pre1[3610]: LIRC major number is 61 Mar 22 20:07:27 localhost
lircd 0.7.0pre1[3610]: check if /dev/lirc is a LIRC device Mar 22 20:07:27
localhost lircd 0.7.0pre1[3610]: caught signal

If I check the status of the lircd service (/sbin/service lircd status), I
get 'lircd dead but subsys locked' in response. I am using a homebrew serial
IR receiver that works with WinLIRC on my Windows PC. I have loaded the tivo
lircd.conf file into the /etc directory. I did a search of the mailing list
and while I found people with similar issues, I never really caught a
solution. Any help would definitely be apprechiated.

Thanks,

Nate Thompson
