[mythtv-users] going to second capture card and later a third capture card

I just added a second dumb BT848 capture card and am getting performance
problems.  If card #1 is recording, I get lost frames when watching on
card # 2.  It'll work smoothly for 3 seconds or so, and then freeze for
a half second and then work smoothly for another 3 seconds, etc.  

I'm using mpeg-4 encoding.  I really like the 1GB/hr storage
requirement.  

The main processor is an athlon xp 2400;  there's 512M memory.  Do I
need a faster processor if I'm to handle 3 capture cards?

How does the "transcode after recording feature work?"  Does it put off
the compression till after the recording is finished?  Or does it use
the recording profile's compression setting and then use the transcode
recording profile at a later time?  Should I set it for rtjpeg for
recording and mpeg-4 on the transcoding profile?
