[mythtv-users] newb alert

Hi all,

Installing mythtv for the past couple of weeks (off and on mind you) 
and a bit of a linux newb unfortunately. I've run into a problem that I 
can't seem to get around.

I'm running Mandrake 9.2 and used the rpm install from 
http://rpm.nyvalls.se/ which seemed to work quite well. (I did have to 
tell my firewall that it was OK to accept requests on the MySQL ports. 
- despite the firewall being set to "nothing") Once setting that up 
correctly most of mythfrontend seems to work quite well. (it stopped 
complaining about not connecting to the backend) And I'm able to see a 
channel lineup, and even choose shows to record. (they don't actually 
record though)

However, when I choose the option to "watch TV" my screen switches to 
black as if it's about to display video, but then after about 10 
seconds switches back to the mythtv interface.

Not quite sure what I should look into in the configuration files. I'm 
sure I must have overlooked something obvious.

In my attempt at trouble-shooting I've installed a multimedia kernel 
(once again from http://rpm.nyvalls.se/), and have gotten XawTV to work 
showing live TV in a window. (it's a bit black and white, but when I 
press the right arrow key to about 16 it seems to have nice color - 
could this be a source of trouble?)
I _think_ that means that I've managed to get my TVtuner card being 
seen by the OS.

However, I don't know that for certain - and would love anyone's advice 
on what I must be overlooking.
