[mythtv-users] Cable Box USB

High everyone, I have been searching the archives, but I can not seem to derive an exact answer.  My digital cable box (SA Explorer 2000) does not have a serial port.  It does have a USB (which I imagine a lot of them have).  Can we use this with LIRC - either a direct USB (MythTV) to USB (cable box) or a serial to USB converter (Myth TV) to USB (Cable box).  Any info would be helpful.
