[mythtv-users] DVD rip can't connect to transcodeing daemon

Someone please remind me tta htis long journey is worth it :-(

Todays new problem is.. 

When I go to the "Rip DVD" selection from the menu, I get a
full screen message about not being able to connect to the MythtV
transcoding daemon. Now, I'v _always_ gotten this, for whatever thta's
worth and hiting, say, 0 has brought up the selection menu.
Now it doesn't

Systme is KnoppMTH R42, with a PVR-350 and a PVR-250 card. I've
been woking on X, ivtv-fb, and mplayer settings issues forr the
last little while, but I can't see how these would interact with 
DVD riping.

Where do I start troubleshooting this? What's the name of this
transcoding daemon? Does it create a log file?
