[mythtv-users] Lirc problems w/PVR-250

Hi Brian,

I recently built a system for a friend and ran into the exact same problem.

For some reason, the apt-get for lirc and lirc-kmdl-* is grabbing the older version of lircd. If you notice in your /var/log/messages, you are running lircd 0.7.0pre1.

According to http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-8.html, you must have lircd 0.7.0pre2 in order to support the Hauppage PVR-250/350 remote.

I went ahead and grabbed the lirc-0.7.0pre2.tar.bz2 snapshot from http://lirc.sourceforge.net/software/snapshots/ and then compiled lirc on my own, and was able to get it working. (I also followed the myth How-to's advice, and just removed all traces of lirc before compiling.)

Don't forget to follow Jarod's instructions under "Miscellanea/Compiling stuff on your own", and drop the proper .config file into your kernel source tree. Also, when you compile lirc yourself, it throws the executables (like irw for testing) into different default directories than Axel/Jarod do, so you'll need to find the right copies once compiling is complete.

HTH,

- Patrick
