I think Matthew Schumacher hit on it when he said he'd
like to donate financially to the project since he
can't donate time. I've got a wife and two young kids,
I have enough trouble with life and trying to find
time to BUILD a Mythbox, much less contribute time to
the project! 

But I'd certainly be interested in contributing in
other ways, such as financially. I also like dan's
suggestion about a bounty system... it allows people
who want a feature to have more options then "code it
yourself" and actually contribute financially if they
really want something. 

I still think a base contribution option is
appropriate for those (like myself) who would want to
contribute with or without a bounty option. 

Why would you feel weird taking money from people you
don't know? Is it easier to take money from people you
do know? :-) I know I'd have a much easier time
accepting money from stangers who got value from
something I developed/gave them over friends/family
who I gave something to...

One last thought - Two comments about the business
proposition: 

1) It could be an awesome way to be paid to do
something you really enjoy if you choose that
direction.

2)Keep in mind that if you have a business, you could
become the next legal target for Hollywood and follow
the ReplayTV model... and if it's your
assets/livelihood on the line, that might not be so
wonderful...
