[mythtv-users] Freaky TV-out problem with nvidia GF4 MX440

Success! Thanks! You (and Jarod) sent me down another path. I simply
added the

Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"

Option to the Video Card Device section and it works with the suggested
settings of:
        HorizSync 30-50
        VertRefresh 60

The existence of this option is buried in nVidia's readme.txt file for
the driver but in reading I didn't think it would apply.

It seems that the monitor brand/type used during install may affect how
the driver is built since my install with a Sony monitor works while
with a Viewsonic TVout did not work.

Here is the relevant nVidia blurb:

o The "ConnectedMonitor" option can be used to tell X to use the TV
for
display. This should only be needed if your TV is not detected by
the video card, or you use a CRT (or digital flat panel) as your
boot display, but want to redirect X to use the TV. The line in
    your config file should be:

        Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"

Thanks for helping!

Eric

If this should help someone in the future the solution is in reference
to a problem where mythtv functions correctly with a CRT monitor
attached but would not switch correctly to tvout. Symptoms were what
appeared to be both a horizontal and vertical sync problem or just a
horizontal sync problem depending on XF86Config setting for VertRefresh
and HorizSync.

Are you absolutely 100% certain that the "nvidia" X driver is being
loaded and NOT the "nv". The nv driver WILL cause the TV output to go
"nuts".

You also might want to make sure that you have APIC support disabled in
your bios. That can lead to random lockups and crashes with some
chipsets.
