Another option is the cheaper Creative USB gadget.  I got one at Walmart 
for $50 and I think they have dropped since then.  Very basic, but gives 
an optical output an can run at 32K, 44.4K and 48K if you flip the switch 
to disable the analog outputs.  Otherwise it only runs at 48K so beware if 
you need the analog plugs.
