I am also using XFS ... for where myth is reading files, and I am seeing
the same jitters.

My setup is a somewhat more modest:
* EPIA-MII 1.2GHz C3-2
* 256MB RAM
* DVB-t (Twinhan)
* Debian testing (kernel 2.6.6-epia1)

>From what I've read, this should be enough to play live TV with CPU only
(decoding in software), but it isn't. mythfrontend can't cope [1], and
can't cope playing back recorded TV .... although mplayer has no
problems (~30-40p/c CPU playing DivX).

I chose XFS to avoid any 2GB filesize issues, and as it is supposed to
be more performant. Could there be an interoperability problem??

[1] hence my looking more seriously at hardware acceleration using the
     onboard MPEG2 decoder.
