A RF remote will not work unless you have line of site.  I am assuming you
do not.  You might look at the 900Mhz and 2.4GHz keyboards.  They have a
better range then the RF devices.  

You can also look at an RF transmitter that is mounted in the living room.
I believe X10.com sells them.  

I have been looking for a solution for a long time.  My frontend/backend is
on the first floor and I have cable pulled to the upstairs bedroom.  It
would be great if I could pause/stop/ff/rewind/etc from upstairs.
