To answer my own question...yes the FT2232C is supported in Linux.  The 
driver is on the FTDI website.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't 
two devices show up in /dev when the ftdi_sio module is loaded?  And if 
this is the case, LIRC and LCDproc shouldn't care how the devices are 
attached as long as they point to the correct /dev entry, right?
