[mythtv-users] possible mythvideo improvement?

Hey guys..

I had an idea for an improvement in mythvideo.. and I think it might be
of interest to quite a few..

I'm more of a VB/ASP programmer and a PHP programmer so not sure where
I'd start with this..

I have a 250Gb HD in my combined back/frontend box..

It's quite happy sitting there filling up space with movies, rips and
recordings..

When thats full I could go out and buy another 250Gb drive and keep going...

However.. when does this stop? I can backup stuff to DVD with my
recorder.. but managing a big collection of DVD's isn't the easiest thing...

So.. onto the suggestion...

I can fit maybe 5/6 movies onto a DVD if I just use it as a data disc
and store the .avi's on it...

This cuts down on cost for new dvd's and saves a *huge* amount of time
converting all my movies to "proper" dvd format..

However.. I still want that 5/6 movies listed in the video manager...

How's about a facility where, once I've burnt my 5/6 avi's to DVD, I can
then insert that DVD.. mythvideo will look at the avi's.. allow me to do
the full imdb search and store the metadata.. so it's still in the video
manager..

Then it assigns me a number.. "put a sticker on this dvd with the number
1 on it".. then to the next DVD... "put a sticker on this dvd with the
number 2 on it"

Then where I want to watch a movie.. I look through the video manager..
select a movie and it will say "please insert DVD #1"

I know there are seperate applications for this.. and there's even a few
php apps for dvd/cd management.. but something like this would be nice
built-in to the video manager..

I know not everyone can afford to be going out and buying loads of new
(big) hard drives.. and setting up cd/dvd jukeboxes etc etc.. so this
might be an alternative..

any thoughts on this? or am I just talking outta my arse? lol

Craig
