I tried "mplayer -monitoraspect 4:3 -aspect 16:9 %s" with no change in the output. Maybe the TV that I'm using is doing something strange...it's a Sony 42" projection that is HDTV ready. Thanks for everyone's help on this! Please keep the ideas coming. Steve
