On some systems it is caused by the "CPU Disconnect" feature being 
enabled. Shutting it off in the BIOS, or via the"athcool" package can 
then resolve it. Worked for on my nForce2 FIC AU13. The last kernel 
workaround I saw had a nasty performance hit, I don't know if the latest 
fix is any better.
