I had a similar problem long ago, and fixed it (and some corruption
issues surrounding old ivtv driver freezes) by doing

echo 100 > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_writeback_centisecs

which tells the machine to flush the writeback cache every second.
The problem for me was that the default flush interval was so long
that it built up too much data resulting in a flush hogging the PCI
bus for enough time that myth would get into an unrecoverable state
viz-a-viz the ivtv driver, and the recording would stop.

I still use ReiserFS, and with recent ivtv drivers from Chris Kennedy
have had no problems.
