Well, yes, that's what I said in my post. The problem is that I have to do  
it *every time* something wants to use lirc, so running e.g. mythfrontend  
twice in a row means stopping lircd, rmmod, modprobe, starting lircd.

Or do you mean that I actually have to rmmod the lirc modules before  
updating lirc? Or stopping lirc before compiling a kernal (nah, doesn't  
make sense :)  ).
