[mythtv-users] LIRC + Homebrew IR and Sony remote

I have been searching the archive for any ideas as to how I install LIRC for
the homebrew IR receiver as shown on the lirc.org site.  I have made the
receiver and attached it to the COM1 port on my PC.  I removed the LIRC rpm
that was installed with Jarods guide and tried to reinstall the 0.7pre2 lirc
CVS snapshot.  All went well, no compilation errors.  At the end of it I had
/dev/lirc listed as a character device (i.e. No symlink).

Here are my problems:  I cant get my sony remote or the remote that came
with my Avertv card to register any information with irrecord.  I made sure
that lircd was not running and ran irrecord temp.conf .
I have tried to locate a lirc config file from lirc.org but my remote
RMY-165 is not listed, any suggestions other than creating my own once this
lirc setup is completed

What suggestions do the mythtv users out there have for me to try.  I am
using the latest atrpms kernel (2188) and have set up my system following
jarods excellent guide.
Has anyone managed to get alternate remotes working with an Avertv card?  I
have seen some people stating last year that they were going to try it but
no reports of success or config.
