Thanks for the suggestion, however, my apologies, but I do not
understand exactly what you are suggesting I do. I gather that 'YUV' is
some form of file that KWinTV is looking for but what is the 'cat test'
and how do I do it?

what "cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/test.mpg" will do is pull video directly from
your pvr-250 and write it to the file test.mpg located in the tmp directory.
you can then view this file to see if you are getting proper input.
