[mythtv-users] [Slightly OT] CIFS + Fedora Core 1 + Jarrod's guide?

In an attempt at figuring out problems I'm having with samba shares
and 4GB+ files (DVD isos), I read that using CIFS will eliminate any
of the old samba filesize limits. So I attempted to mount with mount
-t cifs //server/share /localmnt and I see:

mount error: cifs filesystem not supported by the system

So I can only assume that Axel's kernel does not include the relevant
patches for CIFS. Then I downloaded the patch for CIFS
(http://www.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/samba/cifs-cvs/cifs24.87.patch) I
patched it into Axel's linux-2.4.22-1.2166.nptl_35.rhfc1.at, then I
did make mrproper, then I copied over the old .config from the /boot
folder, ran make menuconfig, and activated CIFS. Then I did make dep,
and then make bzImage && make modules modules_install. Unfortunately,
the modules make bombs out at i2c. With a message similar to this:

depmod: scx200_gpio_base_R254e5667

with 3 different failings, all related to scx200.

My question is, what does this mean? I've googled for this particular
failure, and none really had a solution. Is there an easier way to add
CIFS support to Axel's 2.4 kernel?

Thanks in advance for any help :)
