According to the font of all knowlege (Google hit counting),
"beemer" is the preferred spelling.  According to
http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/reference/bimmer-beemer.asp it's
"beemer" for a BMW motorcycle, and an automobile is a "bimmer".

[The Z3 I tried out didn't fit me, so I bought a Miata and had
$10K left over.]
