I tried to upgrade via apt, but the x server crashed on reboot. I 
upgraded the kernel, removed the old nvidia drivers, then installed the 
6106 driver and kmdl all through atrpms. On reboot I got a message 
saying the kernel module couldn't be found and there were no useable 
screens. I am not sure what I did wrong.

However it is very easy to install the package from nvidia here: 
These worked without a hitch.
