I believe it is dpms in XFree86, not apm or any kernel-level power management 
blanking the display. Try setting dpms to off in your XF86Config file. You 
can also use xset to disable dpms and any screensaver, with this command, 
either entered manually or in a script:

xset -dpms s off

(-dpms is no dpms, s off is screensaver off)
