Heh.
The mfd (it's in cvs) has ambitions of doing this. It's a daemon you'd
run on each frontend, and part of it's job is to keep track of all the
content available (with metadata). The notion is that the GUI client
then just asks the mfd what's available (not caring where it came from
... recorded TV, old .avi's, DVD rips, etc.) and lets the user browse
it and play it. Note that the mfd is also network transparent and
Rendezvous-enabled, so "not caring where it came from" also means not
caring where it is on the network).
That's the plan. There's no client yet (or, rather, no adaptation of
any mythplugin gui clients to it), and the only content lookup and
tracking going on so far is for audio data. But it's coming .... fire
up an mfd on a couple of myth boxes and run iTunes on the same network
... kinda cool.
