It is also possible to use the Hoontech add-on card to SB-Live (and 
other creative cards).

The have made a few different add-on cards, depending upon which sound 
card you have.

I bought such a card for what would translate to about 30USD, and is 
running optical between my surround reciever and the myth box - works 
like a charm.
