I do this all the time, essentially using my wife's iBook like a wireless 
keyboard.  What you want is x2x (or osx2x for Mac OS X).  It allows you to 
forward local keyboard & mouse events to a remote display.  It probably works 
under cygwin, too, so you could even set it up on a Windows laptop.
