Problem has been fixed, I guess it is was not unresolvable afterall.
THANKS to all those that helped. If anybody is interested here are the things
done to resolve my problem.
1) set my display size to 848x480 @60Hz (native resolution of plasma)
Previously I was running at 720x480 at 60hz, changing this helped the most.
2) replace the nvidia 5200 with a matrox g400
The matrox just has better quality VGA output.
3) Mythsettings
-Raise the bitrate to at least 8000
-uncheck jitter reduction
- uncheck deinterlace playback, instead use the kerneldeint filter
- uncheck experimental av sync, this is not needed because I am no longer
using the nvidia card
4) upgrade pvr firmware to 22037
