There are some USB WiFi devices that work under Linux.  I've heard that 
the Netgear MA-101 can be made to work (see here: http://
atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net/howto/howto.html).  For others, google 
around and you'll probably find a few.  As I said above, the nice thing 
about these is they're often small, and if your mobo has USB pin 
headers, you can put a USB port inside your case and mount the USB WiFi 
adapter right inside (though I'm sure this wreaks havoc with your 
signal quality).  I've heard of at least one person who had done this.

Your other option is to get an Ethernet-to-wireless adapter, such as the 
Linksys WGA11B.  It like a stripped-down wireless router/access point 
that plugs into an Ethernet jack, so if you have onboard Ethernet, you 
don't need to use up a PCI slot.  These devices are commonly marketed 
for game consoles, hence they're usually called "wireless game 
adapters".
