No, lirc only changed the linked in drivers, externaly everthing is
the same.

lirc-0.6 seems wrong, if there is a lirc-0.7.0 available. Did you
apt-get dist-upgrade to get packages to the latest? Otherwise what
does

apt-cache policy lirc

tell you?
