[mythtv-users] mysql nightmares: Access denied for user: 'mythtv'

Hi,
I keep getting this problem, which prevents me from lauching
mythfrontend.  I'm using the latest cvs on gentoo amd64.  (The
frustrating thing is that something changed in cvs and I was urged to
chase QT problems,days wasted, which were miraculously fixed with a
cvs update!).  So, I got over that hurdle and now I am almost there.

Here is the log:
couldn't open db
lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages
2004-12-31 13:10:38.740 Joystick disabled.
2004-12-31 13:10:49.182 Writing settings file /home/mythtv/.mythtv/mysql.txt
2004-12-31 13:10:49.184 Unable to connect to database!
2004-12-31 13:10:49.184 Driver error was [1/1045]:
QMYSQL3: Unable to connect
Database error was:
Access denied for user: 'mythtv at AMD64' (Using password: YES)

So, I search the forums and cleared the permissions, made sure there
was a /root/.my.cnf (I even copied it to /home/mythtv).  No luck. 
I've tried setting host name to 127.0.0.1 and amd64 (which is what I
have to use from the cmd line), as well as localhost.  I'm floundering
around trying to connect and I have run out of ideas.

Any help would be appreciated.  Maybe change that Using password: NO ?
